When congregation members need help with a given situation, we ask them to identify what would be helpful for us to do. Just to name a few, we have taken folks to and from the airport, provided food, done grocery shopping, made hospital/home visits, cleaned up at a home, taken care of pets, etc. Congregants also help out those in need in the community and around the world.

Our youth are also active in doing mitzvahs to help others. As a requirement a Student must do so many hours of community service as their mitzvah project. These are some of the ideas our students have come up with for their mitzvah projects.

Rachel	I’m going to make necklaces and bracelets and sell them and give the money to charity. I have chosen to do this cause I enjoy making necklaces and bracelets, and the money will be going to a good cause.
Leia	I would like to help at the Louisville Preschool Elementary School. I want to because I love to work with kids, especially the little ones, and to teach. I would like to host a goo-making party, or some kind of art for the kids to do.
Alex	For my mitzvah project I would want to sell lemonade, chocolate, or cookies for the Alex’s Lemonade Foundation. I would like to do it cause I know the money I collect will go to a good cause, and the foundation has the same name as me.
Sarah	I’m not sure what I want to do yet, but I have a couple of ideas: 1. Raise a Seeing Eye dog – my family and me want a dog, and it would eventually be able to move on and help a blind person. 2. Put on a play to raise money for supplies in Africa. I’d do this cause the people in Africa need the help, and I enjoy putting on plays.
Hannah	I would like to volunteer at the Maxfund Animal Shelter. I’m volunteering there because I like to work and be with animals. It is also the shelter where I got my dog, and know they need some help.
Austin	I would like to help by donating toys to needy boy and girls. I would do this because all kids should be able to grow up having some toys.
Jacob	I would like to help clean up a park, or do something associated with helping the environment.
